Near Odesa, 8 hectares of grass and reeds are smoldering
Firefighters are continuing to extinguish a fire involving dry grass and reeds in irrigated fields near Odesa; the area affected by the smoldering fire is approximately 8 hectares. Due to the acrid smell of smoke, residents are advised to limit their time outdoors.
Oleg Kipper, head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, reported that efforts have been underway since July 20. According to him, rescue workers from the State Emergency Service in the Odesa region have mobilized the necessary personnel and equipment; however, firefighting efforts are complicated by the lack of access to the smoldering areas and the need to halt operations each time an air raid alert is issued.
Kipper noted that the relevant services are monitoring the situation, and the spread of the smoke odor depends on wind direction and strength. Environmentalists are constantly monitoring air quality; according to the head of the Regional State Administration, current readings do not indicate a critical deterioration in air quality.
Once the wind direction changes, the smell of smoke is expected to gradually subside. Until then, people with respiratory conditions and allergies, the elderly, pregnant women, and families with young children are advised to spend as little time outdoors as possible, keep windows closed, and stay well-hydrated.
