Training of Ukrainian troops abroad will continue — General Staff

Ukrainian military personnel continue to undergo training abroad; specifically, in 2026, basic military training is planned to take place in three European Union countries.

Dmytro Lykhoviy, a representative of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, told Ukrinform about this.

According to him, the training is taking place with the support of four NATO member states and includes training on foreign weapons, as well as training for commanders, sergeants, and instructors.

At the same time, the scope of training abroad is gradually being reduced. The Armed Forces of Ukraine note that more and more training is being moved to Ukraine—to safer regions with enhanced security measures.

The General Staff explains that it is easier to integrate combat experience, actively use drones and electronic warfare equipment, conduct night-time firing exercises, and provide psychological training in Ukraine without complex logistics.

At the same time, training abroad has its advantages—modern logistical support, the absence of air raid alerts, and a high-quality core of instructors.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasize that Ukraine is already capable of independently providing the necessary level of military training, taking into account modern high-tech warfare and its own combat experience.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has begun the process of relocating military training to Ukrainian territory, phasing out some of the overseas programs.

Ukrainian military personnel will travel to Germany to teach one of Europe’s strongest armies how to fight against Russia.

Ukrainian military pilots are undergoing training in the United Kingdom to become helicopter flight instructors.
