Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a man's death at the Ternopil Trade and Cultural Center
A tragic incident occurred at the Ternopil Regional Recruitment and Social Support Center, resulting in the death of a civilian man from a gunshot wound.
This was reported by Serhiy Zyubanenko, head of the Ternopil Regional Police Department.
Law enforcement officials officially released a clip from the internal surveillance cameras to stop the spread of rumors surrounding this incident.
The head of the regional police explained in detail the reasons for publishing this footage before the investigation is complete.
“I understand the public outcry. Unverified versions, rumors, and assumptions regarding the circumstances of the man’s death are already spreading on social media. That is why, with the permission of the investigator, the prosecutor, and the relevant authorities, we are releasing a video clip of the incident,” the statement reads.
The released video clearly captures the sequence of the deceased’s actions immediately before the tragedy.
The recording shows the man, accompanied by military personnel and in the presence of civilians, entering one of the rooms of the TCC and SP, leaving a bag containing some of his personal belongings in the hallway, and heading toward the restroom with a backpack.
A few seconds later, people inside the building heard a loud noise.
Investigative authorities are conducting a comprehensive analysis of all events leading up to the moment of the citizen’s death on the premises of the military facility.
“However, investigators will examine all details and circumstances: from the moment the man arrived at the TCC and SP, his escort, his stay in the building, and up to the moment of the shot. After all, the investigation has questions that require clear answers. During the inspection of the scene, investigators seized physical evidence. One of the theories being examined is that the pistol may have been in the man’s backpack. At the time of the scene inspection, the backpack was open in the restroom, and its contents had been removed,” noted the head of the regional police.
