Police have warned Ukrainians about fake traffic tickets
Law enforcement officials have warned of a new scam in which criminals are sending citizens fake notices about alleged traffic fines. First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department Oleksiy Biloshitsky urged Ukrainians to be vigilant, not to click on suspicious links, and not to share their personal information with strangers.
“Friends, if you receive a message stating that you must pay a fine for a traffic violation, be careful and cautious—scammers are constantly coming up with new schemes to steal your money. The Patrol Police and Cyber Police urge you to use only official resources to check and pay fines, and to enter your personal and banking information exclusively on verified government services. “And under no circumstances should you click on suspicious links!” the statement reads.
Biloshitsky reminded that the Patrol Police Department does not send citizens notifications about fines to their mobile phones. “If a fine for a traffic violation recorded by an automated system remains unpaid within 10 days, the vehicle owner will receive an official letter by mail,” he added.
“If you have any doubts about the authenticity of the message or the information regarding the fine, contact the administrative practice unit of the Patrol Police Department in your city to verify the information. You can also check for fines on the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ web portal, the “Diya” portal, the Driver’s Cabinet, and the “Diya” and “Traffic Fines” apps,” noted the deputy head of the Patrol Police Department.
Oleksiy Biloshitsky emphasized that one of the hallmarks of an official government resource is the gov.ua domain. “If you have fallen victim to scammers or suspect fraudulent activity, contact the cyber police immediately. Protect your personal data and stay vigilant!” he emphasized.
By the way, the Cyber Police and the Pension Fund are urging Ukrainians to be cautious due to the spread of false messages on messaging apps and social media about alleged new payments and “supplements” to pensions. Fraudsters are using the Pension Fund’s name, logo, and visual style to mislead people and trick them into clicking on phishing links.
This warning was issued by Oleksiy Biloshitsky, First Deputy Head of the Patrol Police Department.
