Poland has closed its airspace near its eastern border for three months
From September 10 to December 9, 2026, Poland will impose temporary air traffic restrictions in the eastern part of the country to ensure more effective operation of its military air defense system.
The restrictions will apply in the specially designated EP R134 zone, extending from the ground to an altitude of approximately 3 kilometers, and will not affect civilian passenger aircraft, which fly at significantly higher altitudes.

According to the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command, the decision was made to provide air defense units with the necessary freedom of action and the ability to respond quickly to potential threats. The strictest restrictions are in place at night, when a complete flight ban is enforced in the zone, with the exception of military aircraft and pre-approved flights from the Depultyče-Królewskie Airport in the Chełm area.

Earlier, Poland extended the buffer zone on the Polish-Belarusian border for another 90 days—until November 29, 2026.
Poland remains interested in participating in NATO’s nuclear sharing program. At the same time, Warsaw is negotiating its participation in the planning of the European “nuclear umbrella” proposed by French President Emmanuel Macron.
