More than 9,000 Ukrainians have been returned from Russian captivity

Ukraine has managed to repatriate more than 9,000 of its citizens from Russian captivity, including both military personnel and hundreds of civilians. This was reported by Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets, who emphasized that efforts to bring people home are ongoing.

In total, 9,048 Ukrainian citizens have been returned from Russian captivity, including 452 civilians and the rest as prisoners of war. This was reported by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, during a speech in parliament.

According to him, the release process continues thanks to constant contacts and negotiations that Ukraine is conducting regarding its citizens held captive on Russian territory.

He also noted that in 2025, Ukraine provided humanitarian aid to those remaining in Russian captivity or detention facilities. “About 5,000 packages containing warm clothing and medical supplies were delivered, as well as approximately 5,000 letters,” Lubinets said.

He emphasized that efforts to bring Ukrainians home are one of the key priorities of state policy and continue despite the difficult conditions of war.
