A bank employee in the Cherkasy region stole 1 million hryvnias from the grandmother of a fallen soldier

Police officers exposed and detained a former chief economist at a bank branch who defrauded a 78-year-old woman out of more than 1 million hryvnias.

This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine, specifying that the victim had received these funds as government assistance following the death of her grandson in the Kharkiv region.

According to the investigation, the suspect, taking advantage of her position, convinced the pensioner to open an additional account and transfer all her savings there. Afterward, the suspect secretly gained access to the account and systematically withdrew cash from ATMs throughout the city. Law enforcement officers have already conducted searches at the suspect’s residence and former workplace, seizing evidence of her involvement in the crime.

The woman has been notified of charges under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, including grand theft, money laundering, and unauthorized interference with information systems. The court ordered her to be held in custody as a preventive measure.

The suspect faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property. The police emphasize that such cynical crimes against the families of defenders are under special scrutiny by law enforcement agencies, and the banking institution is currently cooperating with the investigation to establish all the circumstances of the fraud.

In Zaporizhzhia, an organized group of fraudsters was exposed; posing as military personnel, they received humanitarian aid from charitable organizations and then sold it at the market.

Also, in Mykolaiv, a pair of Russian agents were detained for spying on a defense plant.
