The SBU and the police have apprehended four dealers in looted weapons

Law enforcement officials have identified and detained four individuals who were attempting to facilitate the illegal sale of weapons and ammunition smuggled out of frontline areas.

This was reported by the SBU and the National Police.

During operations in various regions, a Kalashnikov assault rifle, an anti-tank grenade launcher, about 30 grenades of various types, and over 6,000 rounds of ammunition were seized.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, a serviceman on leave was detained while attempting to sell an AK-74 assault rifle and 15 grenades. Also in the region, a repeat offender was caught attempting to sell a rocket-propelled anti-tank grenade launcher and grenades purchased via the dark web.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, a 34-year-old deserter was detained who had been storing an arsenal of ammunition under his bed and planned to sell it. According to the investigation, he brought the weapons from the Kherson area.

In addition, another suspect was detained while attempting to sell 90 artillery shells, a grenade, and nearly 6,000 rounds of ammunition online. He planned to disassemble the ammunition and send it to the buyer by mail.

All those detained have been notified of their status as suspects in the illegal handling of weapons. They face up to seven years in prison.

The investigation is ongoing under the procedural supervision of the prosecutor’s office.

Charges have been filed against top SBU officials who “protected” amber mining operations.

The deputy head of the SBU in Rivne Oblast received over $22,000 from a businessman through the same intermediary for ensuring unimpeded amber mining.
