Law enforcement officials caught an Uzhhorod lawmaker hiding assets worth 78 million hryvnias

Law enforcement officials have announced that they have charged a sitting member of the Uzhhorod City Council with intentionally including knowingly false information in his financial disclosure statement

The official “forgot” to include a large-scale recreational business in his documents and declared millions in cash savings, which significantly exceed his official income.

This was reported by the press service of the Uzhhorod District Prosecutor’s Office, which is overseeing the criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 366-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

According to the official investigation, the Uzhhorod official failed to disclose in his financial disclosure documents his use of a large hotel and restaurant complex that has been operating successfully on the outskirts of the regional center for nearly 20 years.

This commercial property has a total area of over 1,074 square meters and includes a hotel building, a sauna, a café-bar, and a modern dining facility with a swimming pool.

Experts estimate the total market value of this undisclosed property at nearly 50 million hryvnias.

Serious corruption violations were uncovered following a comprehensive audit of the individual’s financial statements conducted by specialists from the National Agency for Corruption Prevention (NACP).

At the same time, prosecutors conducted additional monitoring of the official’s declaration and also identified discrepancies between the official’s actual lifestyle and the documents submitted.

The discrepancies uncovered served as a solid basis for opening a criminal case and formally charging the official.

In addition to the undisclosed real estate, the suspect and his wife officially declared ownership of over 108 million hryvnias in cash (in hryvnia equivalent).

However, the family’s officially confirmed financial capacity and legal income indicate that they could have legally accumulated only slightly more than 78.1 million hryvnias.

Thus, the net difference between the couple’s declared financial assets and their officially confirmed income exceeds 28.3 million hryvnias.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
