Prime Minister Koretsky Discussed Ukraine’s Preparations for the Heating Season

Ukraine is entering the heating season better prepared than last year, the prime minister said. At the same time, he emphasized that the winter will not be easy, despite additional generating capacity, backup power supplies, and enhanced infrastructure protection.

 

According to the head of government, the resilience plans approved to prepare the country for winter were deliberately ambitious from the outset. This, he noted, made it possible to significantly strengthen the system even without their full implementation.

The Prime Minister separately thanked the military administrations, community and city leaders, state-owned companies, and ministries for their work, although he acknowledged that certain shortcomings in preparations still remain.

Among this year’s achievements, Koretskyy cited:

• the construction of additional power generation capacity;
• providing backup power to a greater number of critical facilities;
• strengthening the protection of key infrastructure elements;
• increasing stockpiles of equipment and spare parts;
• expanding the number of repair crews and vehicles.

These steps complement the work the government has been carrying out throughout the summer and fall as part of the approved regional resilience plans.

Earlier, Koretsky promised that payments to military personnel would be made consistently and in full.

In Ukraine’s draft state budget for 2027, the base pay for military personnel was left at approximately 20,000 hryvnias. 

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed as an urgent law a bill introducing payments of 50,000 hryvnias for military personnel released from captivity.
