Three Men Detained by Border Guards While Attempting to Cross into Moldova (Video)
Border guards of the Mohyliv-Podilskyi unit prevented an attempt by three men to illegally cross the state border into Moldova, bypassing official checkpoints. Their plan involved a nighttime journey along the Dniester River using inflatable mattresses. Thanks to the prompt actions of the border guards, the attempt was unsuccessful.
According to the State Border Guard Service, the men—aged 25 to 34—were residents of Vinnytsia and Kharkiv regions. “They prepared for their journey in advance: first gathering in Vinnytsia, then bypassing checkpoints and traveling by detours to the border. The final stage of the route was to be by water across the Dniester,” the report said.
For the water crossing, they brought inflatable mattresses and life jackets but were intercepted by border guards on a boat before getting far. Administrative protocols were filed against the men for attempting to cross the state border illegally.
Separately, cases continue against those facilitating illegal border crossings, including a 34-year-old orthopedist accused of helping a military-age man leave Ukraine illegally. Last year, Ukrainian border forces, working with law enforcement, dismantled over 520 criminal groups. Other recent cases included military personnel selling fake leaves in Vinnytsia and a scheme for avoiding mobilization through sham employment in Chernihiv.
