The Rada summoned the head of the AMCU over suspicions of collusion in the fuel market
Members of Parliament voted to summon Pavlo Kyrylenko, the head of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, to the chamber to provide explanations regarding the situation in the petroleum products market.
Parliament seeks answers regarding the rapid rise in fuel prices and to investigate the possibility of a cartel agreement among gas station chains.
The initiative was supported by 157 lawmakers, allowing for the adoption of a resolution to officially invite the official.
The AMCU head is expected at the Verkhovna Rada on April 8 at 12:00 p.m. to deliver a detailed report on the state of the fuel market and the results of the investigations conducted.
Lawmakers want to hear a clear assessment of whether a collusion among the market’s major players has been documented.
In addition, Pavlo Kyrylenko is to analyze whether the state has taken all necessary measures to stabilize prices and protect consumers’ interests from unjustified costs.
It is worth recalling that the head of the agency has previously visited parliament on a similar topic, but at that time his presentation did not satisfy the lawmakers’ inquiries.
During his previous visit, the AMCU chairman was unable to provide specific data on the existence of abuses at gas stations.
At that time, Pavlo Kyrylenko left unanswered the question of whether the current rise in prices was the result of objective economic factors or whether someone was simply profiting at the expense of Ukrainians.
As a reminder, 1.3 million Ukrainians have already taken advantage of the fuel cashback program.
Ukraine also ranks among the ten countries with the fastest-rising diesel fuel prices amid the war in the Middle East.
