Lifecell is shutting down 3G in the region and taking the network to the next level

Lifecell is gradually shutting down its 3G network in the Ternopil region, reallocating the frequencies to 4G. Starting July 2, users in the region will fully transition to the new communication standard, which is expected to provide faster and more stable internet.

The era of 3G connectivity is coming to an end in the Ternopil region, as Lifecell has officially announced that it will shut down the network on July 2 and reallocate radio frequencies to the 2100 MHz band for 4G service. The company explains that this step is part of a large-scale network modernization effort designed to make the internet faster, more stable, and less prone to congestion during peak hours.

Lifecell notes that most subscribers in the region are already effectively ready for the changes, as about 87% use 4G-enabled devices, and the transition will occur automatically for them without any additional action required. At the same time, approximately 11% of customers are still using 2G devices, and for them, service terms will remain unchanged.

The company emphasizes that users with modern smartphones simply need to enable LTE in their settings if this feature is not already activated. If a SIM card is outdated and does not support 4G, it must be replaced at Lifecell retail stores by July 26 while retaining the same phone number. “The operator’s radio frequencies in the 2100 MHz band will be used for 4G, which will increase mobile internet speeds, improve connection stability, and enhance the quality of digital services,” the company said.

The operator also notes that similar transitions have already taken place in other regions and are part of a broader trend toward phasing out outdated communication standards. In particular, in the Chernivtsi region, Lifecell fully transitioned from 3G to 4G at the end of 2025, continuing the gradual modernization of its network across the country. This was reported by Lifecell’s press service on Thursday, June 18.

Ukraine’s largest mobile operator, Kyivstar, is considering the possibility of its first bond offering on the domestic market.
