State Flag Day of Ukraine marked in Kyiv and Lviv

Ceremonies marking State Flag Day of Ukraine were held in Kyiv and Lviv. Participants raised the blue-and-yellow flag, observed a minute of silence for those killed in the war, performed the national anthem, and listened to patriotic and folk compositions by a military orchestra, Al Jazeera English reports.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took part in the events in the capital. According to him, the flag symbolizes what is most precious to thousands of warriors defending all of Ukraine.

Ukrainian military personnel and families joined the State Flag Day ceremony in Lviv. During the event, service members paid tribute to the national flag.

State Flag Day of Ukraine was established on August 23, 2004, one day before Independence Day. The blue-and-yellow flag was restored as the state flag after the collapse of the Soviet Union and Ukraine's independence. According to the outlet, the blue-and-yellow flag has existed for at least one thousand years.
