Ukrainian MP Stepan Kubiv has died suddenly
On the morning of May 18, Ukrainian MP Stepan Kubiv died suddenly. The circumstances of his death have not yet been clarified, and the details of the incident are being investigated.
This was reported by Member of Parliament Taras Batenko.
“It is with deep sorrow that I learned of the unexpected death of my close colleague Stepan Ivanovych Kubiv,” he wrote.
Batenko noted that their more than twenty-year friendship left him with fond memories of Kubiv as a decent, professional, and level-headed person.
“There are few people like him. We will miss your wisdom and support,” the MP added.
Stepan Kubiv was born on March 19, 1962, in the village of Mshanets in what was then the Zboriv District of the Ternopil Region.
A Ukrainian politician and public figure, he served as commander of the National Resistance Headquarters during the Revolution of Dignity, and as First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine from April 14, 2016, to August 29, 2019.
Previously, he served as Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (February 24–June 19, 2014), Member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the 7th, 8th, and 9th convocations, Representative of the President of Ukraine in Parliament (2015–2016), Chairman of the Vasyl Stus All-Ukrainian Society “Memorial,” and holds a Ph.D. in Economics.
Stepan Kubiv represented the “European Solidarity” political party in the Verkhovna Rada. He was a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Economic Development.
