Russia is preparing for new attacks and is exerting pressure via Belarus
Russia may have instructed Belarus to keep Ukrainian forces “on edge” ahead of new attacks in the east and south. This is according to the Center for Countering Disinformation. At the same time, Ukraine is observing military activity and the preparation of positions near the border.
Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, suggests that Russia has instructed Belarus to maintain tension in the northern sector. This could be part of preparations for new assaults in eastern and southern Ukraine. “Belarus appears to have indeed received a task from Russia to keep our forces on edge,” Kovalenko wrote.
He also warned that any provocations could have serious consequences for the Belarusian authorities. “Provocations from Belarus would be a mistake for Lukashenko and his regime,” he added.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also spoke about activity in this area following a report by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukrainian intelligence is observing specific changes on Belarusian territory. “In the border area, roads are being built toward Ukrainian territory and artillery positions are being established,” he noted.
The president also drew attention to attempts by Russian troops to regroup. In his view, this explains why Belarus has recently been stepping up its military activities. Ukrainian authorities believe that Russia may be attempting to divert defense forces from the main theaters of combat and stretch resources thin.
At the same time, officials in Kyiv emphasize that the situation is under control and that any threats from the north are factored into defense planning.
Additionally, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, during which they discussed support for Ukraine and the development of defense cooperation.
Law enforcement officials uncovered large-scale fraud during the procurement of firewood for the Armed Forces of Ukraine—total losses exceed 100 million hryvnias.
