Zelenskyy dismissed Ukraine's ambassador to Qatar
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Andriy Kuzmenko from his post as Ukraine’s ambassador to Qatar. The head of state signed the corresponding decree on August 25, 2026.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree dismissing Andriy Kuzmenko, Ukraine’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the State of Qatar. Document No. 834/2026 was published on the head of state’s official website. The decree states: “To dismiss Andriy Mykhailovych Kuzmenko from the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the State of Qatar.”
Kuzmenko had represented Ukraine in Qatar since December 2019. Thus, he served as ambassador for nearly seven years. The presidential document does not specify the reason for the diplomat’s dismissal. Nor does the decree indicate who might succeed him in this position.
Who Is Andriy Kuzmenko?
Andriy Kuzmenko assumed the post of Ukraine’s ambassador to Qatar on December 18, 2019. Since then, he has represented Ukraine in that country and participated in diplomatic efforts between Kyiv and Doha.
Qatar is of great importance to Ukrainian diplomacy in the Middle East. The country has repeatedly participated in international initiatives related to Russia’s war against Ukraine, particularly regarding humanitarian issues.
In particular, Qatar assisted Ukraine in the return of Ukrainian children who had been illegally taken to Russia after the start of the full-scale invasion. The country also participated in diplomatic contacts regarding humanitarian issues.
Zelenskyy’s decree now marks the end of Kuzmenko’s tenure as ambassador. The president has not yet announced the appointment of a new Ukrainian representative to Qatar in a separate decree. The relevant document, No. 834/2026, has been published on the president’s website.
