Russia has sent several ships carrying stolen Ukrainian grain to Egypt
Russia continues to export Ukrainian grain from the temporarily occupied territories and sell it abroad. In late April, Ukraine recorded several such shipments to Egypt.
This was reported to Suspilne by Vladislav Vlasyuk, the President of Ukraine’s Representative on Sanctions Policy.
According to him, the same scheme is used to export grain: the cargo is loaded at closed ports in occupied Mariupol or Sevastopol, while the documents initially list Russian ports, specifically Temryuk. After setting sail, the declarations are changed, and the final destination becomes the Egyptian ports of El-Deheila or Alexandria.
As Vlasyuk noted, the vessels Alfa-1 and Irkutsk, which previously sailed under the name ALFA M, loaded grain directly in occupied Mariupol, after which they altered the route data to conceal the cargo’s origin.
He added that the vessel Irkutsk is subject to Ukrainian sanctions and is under official arrest as part of criminal proceedings. Similarly, the vessel Mikhail Nenachev transported Ukrainian grain from Sevastopol to Alexandria during the same period.
Vlasyuk emphasized that forging documents does not change the fact of the cargo’s illegal origin. According to him, Ukraine is establishing the actual routes of these shipments and has already shared information about the voyages, vessels, captains, and owners with international partners to increase sanctions pressure on Russia’s shadow grain fleet.
Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga on Thursday, April 30, called the Israeli company’s refusal to unload the Panormitis an important signal to the market. Ukraine will continue to track the vessel and urges international partners not to cooperate with carriers of stolen grain.
As a reminder, Israel has called on Ukraine to provide evidence regarding the stolen grain.
