Russia was planning attacks on defense facilities in Zakarpattia; the gunner was apprehended by the SBU
The Counterintelligence Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine has detained a man in Zakarpattia who is reasonably suspected of collaborating with Russian military intelligence.
The suspect was gathering detailed information about strategic defense facilities in western Ukraine to prepare for future airstrikes and sabotage operations.
The official was caught red-handed while attempting to obtain another batch of classified data.
According to the investigation, the detainee worked at one of the local factories, where he was recruited by the special services of the aggressor country.
The suspect systematically tracked the exact addresses of defense enterprises, gathered information on the specifics of product manufacturing, and actual production volumes.
In addition, he carefully studied the operating procedures of the facilities and obtained personal data on Ukrainian employees.
The Russians planned to use the information obtained by the enemy to adjust missile and drone attacks on facilities of Ukraine’s defense-industrial complex.
Russian intelligence agencies also considered the possibility of organizing terrorist attacks against enterprise executives and leading developers of Ukrainian weaponry.
The agent set his next goal as securing employment at another defense enterprise to continue his espionage activities.
To carry out his criminal plans, the suspect used his professional connections and personal contacts. He obtained the necessary information while communicating with his former colleagues who work at various defense enterprises.
During these conversations, he allegedly inquired about work experience and new developments in the industry, attempting to discreetly extract classified data.
