In the Slobidska district of Kharkiv on the morning of June 2, a man sustained serious injuries after approaching a downed enemy drone to take a photo of it. According to eyewitnesses, the drone’s warhead detonated, after which the victim was hospitalized.
According to Bogdan Gladkikh, director of the city’s Department of Emergency Situations, an “Shahed”-type drone was shot down by air defense forces over the Slobidskyi district of Kharkiv. The drone fell in an open area and initially caused no damage.
“A short time later, a man who had witnessed the downing of the ‘Shahed’ approached the drone. He walked up to it to see what it looked like. At that moment, the warhead detonated, and the man suffered severe injuries,” Gladkikh noted.
The victim was hospitalized; doctors assess his condition as extremely critical.
Serhiy, a resident of Kharkiv, told Suspilne that the drone fell onto a vacant lot near the race track. The man, who was later injured, approached the wreckage to take a photo.
“The drone had been shot down and was falling. When it fell, I went out and shouted at him, ‘Get away from there.’ He said it exploded in the air. Well, sort of—there was an explosion from above. And when he went up the hill to take photos, there was an explosion right there,” the witness said.
According to him, the man was taken away in serious condition with a broken collarbone and a damaged hip.
