Lyudmila Saltan, who had demanded $4,000 in exchange for a ruling, was removed from her position as a judge in Odessa
The High Council of Justice has officially removed Lyudmyla Saltan, a judge of the Kyiv District Court of Odesa, from office for committing a serious disciplinary offense.
The decision to dismiss her was made pursuant to paragraph 3 of part six of Article 126 of the Constitution of Ukraine.
The official lost her status due to gross neglect of her duties, which is incompatible with the status of a judge and indicates her unsuitability for the position she held.
The final decision to remove the judge from office was made following the review of an official submission from the Second Disciplinary Chamber of the High Council of Justice.
During the hearing, the chamber members thoroughly reviewed the materials of the criminal proceedings and reached a unanimous conclusion regarding the necessity of imposing a disciplinary sanction on the judge in the form of dismissal from office.
Purging the judiciary of corrupt officials remains one of the state’s priorities.
The high-profile corruption scandal involving the Odessa judge began last spring.
In March 2023, Judge Lyudmila Saltan offered a party to a civil case $4,000 in illicit benefits in exchange for ruling in his favor.
According to the investigation, the bribe was handed over on March 29, 2023, under the supervision of law enforcement agencies.
Detectives from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and prosecutors documented the defendant’s illegal actions, after which the case was referred to court.
In March 2026, the High Anti-Corruption Court found Lyudmyla Saltan guilty of bribery (Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and sentenced her to 6 years in prison with the confiscation of part of her property and a 3-year ban on holding positions in government bodies.
