The court will hear the case of businessmen who embezzled over 4 million hryvnias through electricity procurement schemes
Law enforcement officials have uncovered an organized scheme to embezzle public funds during the procurement of electricity through the state-run "Prozorro" system. According to the investigation, the suspects illegally embezzled over 4 million hryvnias.
Officials from one of the National Academy of Sciences’ institutes in Kyiv, in collusion with employees of a private company, purchased electricity at inflated prices. To do this, they entered into additional agreements that provided for price increases without corresponding market price hikes.
Between 2021 and 2022, over 4.4 million hryvnias in budget funds were unjustifiably transferred to the private company’s accounts.
Vehicles, real estate, corporate rights, funds in bank accounts, and other property belonging to the suspects have been seized.
An indictment under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code has been submitted to the court. The defendants face up to 12 years in prison.
