Sadovyi spoke out against attempts to develop strategic airport land
Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi has sharply criticized the decision by the Lviv Regional Military Administration to allow development on land adjacent to Lviv Airport.
According to the mayor, the signing of a memorandum between the LOVA, the airport, and the Sokilnyky authorities regarding the construction of housing on these plots puts an end to the future of this strategic facility.
The conflict has erupted over land that for decades has been considered a reserve for the expansion of the airport’s infrastructure.
Andriy Sadovyi emphasized: “Today, the Lviv Regional Military Administration signed a memorandum with the airport and the Sokilnyky authorities.
This concerns the development of housing on the territory bordering the airport. This decision is one of the greatest crimes against the community of Lviv.”
According to the mayor, transferring strategic areas for residential development is an act of plundering the city, which effectively halts its development. Sadovyi stresses that these plots are critically important for the operation of air navigation equipment.
“In effect, they are proposing that we halt the city’s development and put an end to the airport’s future,” the mayor of Lviv stated in his post.
The authorities’ decision sparked a wave of outrage among local residents, who have long suffered from traffic gridlock in this area.
Residents note that the chaotic development of Sokilnyky without the creation of new traffic interchanges makes it impossible to leave Lviv normally. Instead of building roads to Kiltseva, open spaces are being allocated for yet another high-rise complex.
In addition to logistical problems, experts and residents warn of serious health risks for future residents of such buildings.
Living right next to the runway means constant exposure to radar radiation and electromagnetic waves.
The thermal effect from air navigation systems creates a hazardous environment for prolonged human exposure.
