Ukrainian sommelier Meyer called for the Russian Federation not to be readmitted to the international organization ASI
Ukrainian sommelier Oleksandr Meyer drew attention to the Russian Sommelier Association’s (RSA) plans to reinstate its membership in the International Sommelier Association (ASI).
He wrote about this on his Facebook page, commenting on an interview with the RAS president.
Meier noted that in the interview, the head of the Russian association criticized his fellow citizens who condemned the war against Ukraine, calling them “foreign agents.” He also reported on attempts by the RAS to return to the ASI.
“They want to return to ASI ‘by hook or by crook’ in order to promote their agenda and normalize the presence of Russians at international events, such as competitions and boot camps. It is within our power to prevent this,” Meyer wrote.
According to him, the Russian side seeks to participate in international competitions and events even without national symbols, positioning itself as individual participants.
In the interview itself, the RAS president spoke of a “thaw” in relations with ASI and announced that the Russian association had submitted a request to reinstate its membership. He also stated that audits of the organization’s activities are allegedly linked to the war against Ukraine.
According to him, the issue of the RAS’s possible return to the ASI may be put to a vote during the organization’s congress in May.
In comments on Meyer’s post, users supported the idea of blocking the Russian association’s return, emphasizing the risks of legitimizing it within international structures.
