During the exchange, soldiers from the Armed Forces, the Navy, the Territorial Defense Forces, and the National Guard were returned
During the second phase of the "Easter prisoner exchange," Ukraine managed to repatriate 193 servicemen from various branches of the military.
This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
Among those released were servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including paratroopers, as well as personnel from the Navy, Territorial Defense, National Guard, National Police, State Border Guard Service, and State Special Transport Service. In addition to soldiers and sergeants, several officers were also released.
It is noted that most of those released were illegally detained in Chechnya, and criminal cases were fabricated against some of them.
Also among those freed are soldiers born in the 2000s and wounded defenders.
They carried out combat missions in the Luhansk, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Kursk regions.
All those released will undergo medical examinations, physical and psychological rehabilitation, and receive state-mandated payments.
The Coordination Headquarters thanked the U.S. and the UAE for their assistance in organizing the exchange and emphasized that efforts to return all Ukrainian prisoners of war are ongoing.
All 11 Ukrainian prisoners of war whom Russia transferred to Hungary in 2023 subsequently left the country. Most of them returned to Ukraine, while the rest moved to other countries.
Ukraine and Russia conducted a new prisoner of war exchange on the eve of Easter, but they were unable to agree on a larger number of releases. Kyiv states that it proposed expanding the lists, but the Russian side refused. Despite this, Ukraine expects the exchanges to continue.
