The SBU has charged a former prison warden in Luhansk Oblast with torturing prisoners

The Security Service of Ukraine has formally charged, in absentia, the former head of an occupation prison in the Luhansk region who is implicated in the torture of Ukrainian prisoners of war.

This was reported by the SBU.

According to the investigation, the suspect worked at the so-called “LNR Correctional Colony No. 4” and headed it from October 2022 to January 2024.

While in office, he not only ordered his subordinates to torture captured Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers but also personally participated in the abuse.

In particular, it has been documented that he regularly beat prisoners of war with his hands, feet, a rubber baton, and a hammer, and also used a stun gun.

The SBU notes that such actions constitute a gross violation of the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

He has been notified in absentia of his status as a suspect under the article on violations of the laws and customs of war. Law enforcement agencies are taking steps to bring him to justice.

As a reminder, the SBU exposed an FSB agent who was passing information about the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the enemy.

An FSB agent was sentenced to 15 years for attempting to blow up the Kherson TCC.

The SBU detained an FSB agent while attempting to blow up a power substation in Kropyvnytskyi.
