The President of Romania has received an invitation to visit Kyiv on May 9 — Digi 24

Romanian President Nicușor Dan has received an official invitation from his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, to visit the Ukrainian capital.

Sources at the Romanian publication Digi 24 reported on the invitation.

The visit is expected to coincide with the celebration of Europe Day, which Ukraine observes on May 9 alongside European Union countries.

Although information about preparations for the trip has already appeared in the media, the Romanian leader’s administration has not yet officially confirmed his presence in Kyiv.

Niculescu Dan, who took office in Romania in 2025 after winning the presidential election, continues to pursue a policy of strengthening bilateral relations with Ukraine.

His potential visit to the Ukrainian capital would send an important signal of support amid ongoing Russian aggression.

Official Kyiv traditionally invites leaders of partner countries to events that underscore the unity of the European community.

The Romanian president’s participation in the celebrations could be another step toward deepening military and political cooperation between the two countries.

Currently, the diplomatic services of both countries are coordinating the details of the potential visit. The final decision regarding the trip will depend on the current security situation in Ukraine and the Romanian head of state’s schedule.

As a reminder, Romania recognizes Russia as the main threat in its updated doctrine.

Romania will also join U.S. sanctions against Lukoil.
