Strong winds and freezing rain are making travel difficult on Mount Pip Ivan
Difficult weather conditions have been reported on Mount Pip Ivan Chornohirskyi, posing a real danger to hikers.
This was reported by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
Despite the approach of April, the Carpathians are experiencing true winter conditions with sub-freezing temperatures and strong winds.
Currently, the summit is experiencing heavy cloud cover, thick fog, and significantly reduced visibility. The situation is exacerbated by a north wind reaching speeds of 14 m/s, which significantly intensifies the sensation of cold.
The air temperature in the highlands remains at —3°C, but due to high humidity, conditions are much harsher. Experts note that under such circumstances, any exposed surfaces freeze over quickly.
Travelers are urged to exercise extreme caution, as the mountain slopes are currently extremely slippery. Due to gusty winds and zero visibility, the risk of losing one’s bearings in the terrain increases severalfold.
Rescue services strongly recommend refraining from venturing into the high mountains without proper preparation and specialized equipment. Every route must be carefully planned, taking into account all possible risks.
“Due to high humidity, surfaces are freezing over. Be careful: it’s slippery in the mountains, and the wind makes the cold feel much more intense,” the warning to citizens emphasizes.
As a reminder, Ukraine will see rain amid spring warmth reaching up to 19 degrees.
