The case against the head of the Zhytomyr Regional Territorial Election Commission has been referred to court on suspicion of bribery
The case of the head of the Zhytomyr Regional Territorial Recruitment Center, who is accused of extorting an unlawful benefit, has been referred to court. According to the investigation, a businessman approached the center to reserve employees, but instead of receiving an explanation of the legal procedure, he allegedly received a proposal to pay a monthly fee to avoid mobilization.
On June 30, prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General filed an indictment with the court against the acting head of the Zhytomyr Regional Territorial Recruitment Center and Special Forces.
The Prosecutor General had previously announced that the official was under suspicion.
In exchange for an illegal benefit, he promised to provide the entrepreneur’s employees with de facto “immunity” from mobilization and inspections by the Military Registration and Enlistment Office’s mobile units, particularly at checkpoints.
To this end, the official requested a list of employees containing their personal data and phone numbers. If they were stopped by Military Registration and Enlistment Office personnel, he was to “respond” promptly to prevent their mobilization.
Law enforcement officers documented several instances of the official receiving bribes. After another transfer of funds, the official was caught red-handed, according to the Office of the Prosecutor General.
