The court found the perpetrators of the terrorist attack near the RTCC in Zhytomyr Oblast guilty
With the support of the prosecutor’s office, a court found a 43-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman guilty of carrying out a terrorist attack near the building of the district territorial recruitment and social support center in Zhytomyr Oblast. The investigation established that the crime was committed on behalf of a representative of the Russian Federation.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
In court, prosecutors proved that in late 2024, the man and woman were looking for “work” via Telegram and agreed to organize an explosion near the building of the Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support in exchange for money.
Following instructions from a Russian handler, the woman constructed an explosive device with lethal components and left it in a hiding place, the coordinates of which she provided to the client. The other defendant retrieved the explosives, prepared them for remote detonation, and set up a phone for a live stream so that the handler could observe the site of the planned terrorist attack in real time.
On December 24, 2024, the man planted the explosive device near the main entrance to the RTCC and SP building and remotely activated it. The main explosive mixture did not detonate completely, which prevented casualties and large-scale consequences.
Both perpetrators were detained that same day.
On May 27, 2026, the Berdychiv City and District Court of Zhytomyr Oblast handed down the following sentences:
• the man: 8 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property;
• the woman: 9 years and 10 days in prison with confiscation of property, taking into account the unserved portion of her sentence from a previous conviction (drug-related offense).
The woman attempted to carry out a terrorist attack at a Zhytomyr Armed Forces unit.
