A judge of the Commercial Court of Appeals was caught engaging in illicit enrichment
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, in conjunction with the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, has officially notified a judge of one of the commercial courts of appeal that he is under investigation.
This was reported by NABU.
The judge is accused of illicit enrichment and systematically providing false information in his state asset declarations.
The investigation established that between 2020 and 2023, the suspect acquired expensive real estate in an upscale neighborhood of Lviv.
Specifically, this includes an apartment and a parking space, with a total value of 16.7 million UAH. To conceal the true owner, the judge registered these assets in his mother-in-law’s name.
An analysis of the suspect’s financial situation revealed a complete mismatch between his official income and his actual expenses.
The judge’s official earnings, taking into account necessary living expenses and available savings, in no way allowed for a purchase of such a significant amount.
In addition to concealing ownership, law enforcement officials uncovered evidence of manipulation regarding the official’s place of residence.
The judge deliberately failed to disclose information about his use of rented housing in his annual declarations for 2022–2023, which constitutes a direct violation of anti-corruption legislation.
The judge’s actions were classified under Article 368-5 (illegal enrichment) and Part 1 of Article 366-2 (declaration of false information) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Such offenses carry severe penalties, including imprisonment and confiscation of property.
A pre-trial investigation is currently underway to establish all the circumstances surrounding the origin of the funds and the possible involvement of other individuals in the corruption schemes.
Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the assets of the suspect’s relatives, in whose names other high-value properties or vehicles may have been registered.
