Authorities found assets worth 50 million hryvnias belonging to the families of former Odessa officials

Journalists discovered that Arkady and Bogdan Vaskevych, former employees of the regional recruitment centers, owned numerous properties and luxury cars registered in the names of relatives and friends. The State Bureau of Investigation suspects the former commissioner of the Ovidopol Territorial Recruitment Center of organizing a scheme to profit from evading mobilization, which allowed his inner circle to enrich themselves during the war against Russia.

According to the investigation’s findings, the family acquired three luxury apartments in Odesa, a seaside cottage, and six premium-class cars. In particular, in the fall of 2022, Arkady Vaskevich’s relatives registered four cars worth over 5 million hryvnias in just three weeks, which significantly exceeded the family’s official income. Most of the property is registered to the official’s uncle and mother, who do not have legal income sufficient for such large-scale purchases.

Criminal proceedings regarding alleged corruption were opened in January 2025, but the pace of the investigation has since slowed. Journalists found that Bohdan Vaskevych failed to declare a 145-square-meter apartment and other property that he actually used. Despite the evidence gathered, the most recent court ruling in this case dates back to August of last year. Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the family’s ties to an organized scheme of illicit enrichment.

On April 21, the Security Service of Ukraine detained military personnel from one of the regional territorial recruitment and social support centers in Odesa.

It is reported that the detention of the TCC representatives took place on Balkivska Street and involved a chase and gunfire.
