DTEK power engineers restored the thermal power plant 17 times following shelling incidents this season

During the last heating season, specialists from DTEK Energo restored thermal power plants to operation 17 times, essentially starting from scratch, following Russian shelling.

Energy experts note that despite significant damage, they managed to quickly restore power generation to ensure the stability of the power grid.

This was reported by DTEK.

“During the most challenging heating season, DTEK Energo’s energy specialists ‘restarted’ the company’s thermal power plants from scratch 17 times and restored their operations following massive shelling; since the start of the full-scale war, they have done so 68 times,” the statement reads.

It is noted that due to enemy attacks, the plants were forced to shut down completely; in the terminology of power engineers, they “went to zero.” This means that the TPP is not generating any electricity and is not feeding it into the grid.

Before the full-scale invasion, “shutting down to zero” was an extraordinary event that occurred extremely rarely and only in emergency situations, but during the war, amid constant shelling of energy facilities, such “shutdowns” became routine.

According to reports, after each wave of large-scale shelling of Ukrainian thermal power plants, energy workers immediately began mitigating the damage and carrying out restoration work to get the thermal power plants back online as quickly as possible.

“Restoring a plant from scratch is always a multi-stage, complex technical task carried out by professional teams of power engineers and repair crews. We continue to do everything possible to maintain the stability of the power grid and prepare for summer consumption peaks and the upcoming heating season,” said DTEK Energy CEO Oleksandr Fomenko.

The company noted that since the start of the full-scale invasion, DTEK Energy’s thermal and power plants have been attacked by the enemy more than 220 times. As a result of the attacks, 59 power plant workers were injured and four were killed.

DTEK received a grant from Norad to build the largest wind farm in Ukraine.

DTEK released footage of thermal power plants clearly showing the destruction caused by Russian aggression.

DTEK has signed a strategic agreement with the American company Turbo Drill Industries to implement the advanced Vertical Scout drilling technology. This will accelerate gas and oil production in Ukraine, reduce costs, and strengthen the country’s energy security.
