Sports School Director to Stand Trial Over the Death of a 14-Year-Old Athlete
An indictment has been filed against the director of a children’s and youth sports school in the Ternopil region, who is accused of professional negligence that led to the death of a 14-year-old athlete.
According to the investigation, the director was responsible for the technical condition of the luge track but failed to arrange for its inspection and major repairs, even though the facility was approximately 80% worn out. In addition, he signed a contract to lease the unsafe track for training purposes.
In May 2023, a 14-year-old athlete died while training on this track. Expert examinations confirmed a causal link between the dilapidated condition of the facility and the child’s death.
The defendant is charged with official negligence resulting in serious consequences. At the same time, in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
