Just don't tell Vakarchuk: Zelenskyy talked about his musical tastes
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy admitted that, among Ukrainian artists, he particularly loves the music of the band Okean Elzy, comparing its significance to him with that of the legendary American rock band Aerosmith.
“For me, Okean Elzy is like Aerosmith. I love Okean Elzy, honestly. Just don’t tell Vakarchuk,” the head of state joked during the presentation of the first results of the state program “Tysiachovesna.”
Zelenskyy explained that he deliberately mentioned “Okean Elzy” specifically so as not to offend other Ukrainian artists.
“We have so many different talented musicians. I mention Vakarchuk because no one will be offended that I mentioned Vakarchuk,” the president noted.
At the same time, he said that he regularly listens to music via the streaming services Apple Music and Spotify.
Zelenskyy also reported that over 2,600 applications were submitted for the “Tysiachovesna” cultural projects competition. The 2026 state budget allocates 4 billion hryvnias for the program, of which 2.6 billion hryvnias will be directed toward the production of films and TV series.
