In Bukovina, a giant cake shaped like an embroidered shirt weighing over 200 kilograms was created for Vyshyvanka Day and officially recognized as a Ukrainian record. After the presentation, the sweet creation wasn’t just displayed—it was distributed in exchange for donations to support the military, according to “Suspilne.Chernivtsi.”

In Myhove, Bukovina, a true gastronomic giant was baked for World Vyshyvanka Day—a cake in the shape of a Ukrainian embroidered shirt, weighing over 200 kilograms, which officially made it into the Ukrainian Book of Records, becoming not just a festive event but also a symbol of support for the military.

A team of eight pastry chefs from Myhove and Berehomet worked on creating this sweet work of art, and, according to the organizers, the entire process took four days of non-stop work—from baking the cake layers to the finest details of the Bukovinian ornamentation.

About 1,200 eggs and over a hundred liters of jam were used to make the cake, and the final result was so impressive that it was officially certified by representatives of the Ukrainian Book of Records during the presentation at the Myhiv Lyceum.

The idea to create this dessert came about a month before the event, and, according to pastry chef Kateryna Marchuk, the team wanted to make not just a record, but a symbolic gift dedicated to Ukrainian defenders and everyone supporting the country during the war. “Our team consisted of eight people. We used about 1,200 eggs for the cake. We wanted to create a cake in the shape of an embroidered shirt, which we dedicated to all the soldiers and defenders who are helping to defend our land from the invaders,” the pastry chef said.

The record was officially certified: the cake weighed 200 kilograms and 700 grams, and its entry into the Ukrainian Book of Records was carried out by local officials and event organizers, who emphasized that such initiatives unite the community and bring a sense of celebration even in difficult times. “No one in our region has ever baked a cake like this in the shape of a Ukrainian embroidered shirt and using Ukrainian Bukovinian ornamentation. For us, this is a great honor and a source of great pride,” noted the director of the Myhiv Secondary School.

After the official ceremony, the sweet record-breaking cake wasn’t left just on display—it was sold by the slice, with proceeds going to the 93rd Battalion of the 107th Territorial Defense Brigade. In this way, the community has already raised over 100,000 hryvnias, which will be donated to support the military.

In Ukraine, a new annual initiative is being launched for World Vyshyvanka Day—the “Embroidered Ribbon of Remembrance” campaign, dedicated to honoring the memory of fallen Ukrainian defenders.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, together with First Lady Olena Zelenska, addressed the public with a greeting on the occasion of Vyshyvanka Day, which is traditionally celebrated on the third Thursday of May.

In honor of Vyshyvanka Day, Ukrainian artisan Nadiya Vakulenko shared details about the creation of traditional wedding towels in Reshetylivka. She explained how authentic towels are made, the differences between machine and hand embroidery, and the price differences: machine-made items cost around 10,000 hryvnias, while hand-made ones can reach 30,000–35,000.

On May 21 in Kyiv, to mark Vyshyvanka Day, the mini-sculptures of the city’s founders—Kyiv, Shchek, Khoriv, and Lybid—were updated. The bronze figures on Poshtova Square were adorned with vyshyvankas from various regions of Ukraine. Sculptor Volodymyr Zhuravel also spoke about upcoming updates to these art installations.

The defenders of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released a festive message on the occasion of Vyshyvanka Day.
