Bilohorshcha commemorated the 119th anniversary of Roman Shukhevych's birth
In the village of Bilohorshcha near Lviv, commemorative events were held to mark the 119th anniversary of the birth of Roman Shukhevych, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.
The venue was not chosen by chance, as it was here that the legendary leader of the liberation movement fought his final battle.
Local officials, including Andriy Hodik, first deputy head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, and Yaroslav Hasiak, chief of staff of the Regional Council, laid flowers at the hero’s monument.
Participants in the event honored the memory of all fighters who gave their lives for the independence and sovereignty of the Ukrainian state.
During his speech, Andriy Hodik emphasized the importance of Roman Shukhevych’s legacy for the consolidation of modern Ukrainian society.
According to him, the UPA commander’s example of unshakable faith in his own state and his comrades must remain a guiding principle for every Ukrainian in times of struggle.
“Back in March, standing in this very spot, I said: the figure of the UPA Commander-in-Chief should unite us. As an example of unshakable faith—in our own state, in our comrades-in-arms, and in victory. That is exactly what it must remain today,” Andriy Hodik noted.
The official emphasized that the memory of this outstanding figure must not become a tool for political manipulation or for boosting personal popularity.
Instead, it should be an unwavering symbol of national dignity, tireless struggle, and sincere love for Ukraine.
This was reported by the Lviv Regional State Administration.
