A concert by Prykhodko was canceled in Chernivtsi due to a language controversy

A concert by singer Anastasia Prykhodko was canceled in Chernivtsi following a wave of criticism on social media. The reason was her remark about the so-called “Kyiv Russian” language, which sparked public outrage.

Thus, the concert scheduled for May 5 at the Mykolaychuk Center was canceled following Prykhodko’s post on Threads: “…I speak Kyiv Russian.” She later published a similar post in Ukrainian.

However, she faced a wave of criticism from fans and social media users.

In particular, some reminded the singer that calling Russian “Kyiv Russian” is the same as calling “occupiers tourists.” Others pointed out mistakes in Prykhodko’s post. There were also those who compared Russian to a “prostitute.”

Ultimately, the Ivan Mykolaychuk Cultural and Art Center did not sign a contract with the organizers.

Meanwhile, the singer’s team called the incident a “mini-scandal.”

In a comment to “Suspilne,” Tetyana Dyachenko, acting director of the Mykolaychuk Center, noted that concert agencies book dates several months in advance, so the center does not always know in advance who will be performing.

“Now that it has become clear that ticket sales have begun and that the concert is planned at our venue, we decided not to sign any contract and informed the organizers to look for another location… We were mentioned on social media, where people were outraged. We responded and stated that there would be no concert at our venue,” explained Dyachenko.

In turn, PR representative Kirill Prykhodko confirmed the performance to journalists.

“There was a bit of a mini-scandal: Anastasia planned to come to Chernivtsi, but residents said ‘no’ and boycotted it, so the team decided to cancel the concert entirely to avoid causing any trouble… We won’t be looking for another venue,” Kirill noted.

He acknowledged that the reason was a language issue.

At the Cathedral of Saints Michael and Gudula in Brussels, a stained-glass window depicting the so-called “blood libel” against Jews, linked to the events of 1370, was removed.
