Law enforcement officials have accused an employee of one of the regional recruitment centers in Volyn Oblast of alleged bribery. According to the investigation, he allegedly offered men the chance to avoid mobilization in exchange for a monthly fee. The court placed the suspect under house arrest and suspended him from duty.
According to the investigation, the 29-year-old senior soldier organized a scheme to systematically receive bribes from conscripts. One of his clients was a resident of the Kamin-Kashirsky district who was wanted for violating military registration rules and was subject to administrative liability.
The serviceman offered to help the man avoid punishment and mobilization in exchange for a monthly payment of 20,000 UAH. In addition, he promised to provide classified information about the movements of personnel from other Military Registration and Enlistment Office units within the community.
“To convince the conscript to agree to these terms, he emphasized that otherwise, the man would inevitably be taken to the Territorial Recruitment Center, held administratively liable, and mobilized,” the Special Prosecutor’s Office reported.
Shortly after the agreement, the man was taken to one of the Territorial Center for Recruitment’s regional offices to verify his military registration data. At the same time, according to the investigation, the suspect helped ensure that he was not held administratively liable and was released.
Law enforcement officers documented at least two instances of the transfer of an unlawful benefit. After receiving another payment, the 29-year-old serviceman was detained.
He was notified of the charges under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (receipt of an unlawful benefit by a public official, combined with extortion). The penalty under this article provides for imprisonment of five to ten years.
The court imposed house arrest as a preventive measure on the suspect and suspended him from his official duties. Law enforcement officials are identifying all those involved in the corruption scheme.
