The EU has postponed the allocation of funds for drones for Ukraine

The EU has postponed the allocation of funds for drones for Ukraine

The European Union did not include funding for the production and procurement of drones for Ukraine in the first tranche of the 90-billion-euro loan program.

This was reported by Euractiv.

According to the publication, 5.9 billion euros—which had previously been earmarked for defense needs, including drones—have been temporarily excluded from the first package. Instead, the tranche will include 3.2 billion euros in budgetary support for Ukraine.

The allocation of the first aid package is expected to be officially announced on June 25 during the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk.

As Euractiv’s sources note, the decision is related to technical issues and the need to establish mechanisms to monitor the use of funds. At the same time, funding for defense projects has not been canceled, but merely postponed.

According to the publication, the European Commission may soon present a separate tranche earmarked for Ukraine’s military needs, including the procurement of drones, ammunition, and air defense systems.
