A Frenchman wanted for the enforcement of a sentence was detained in Chernivtsi

A French citizen who was wanted internationally was detained in Chernivtsi. The Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor’s Office carried out the extradition proceedings, after which the man was handed over to French authorities to serve his sentence.

 

In France, the man was sentenced to two years in prison. He violated a court order prohibiting him from engaging in business activities and embezzled more than 64,000 euros that he had received for the construction of a house. He subsequently moved to Ukraine.

On April 29, 2026, the man was detained in Chernivtsi. He was wanted so that he could serve the sentence imposed by the French court.

Pursuant to a request from the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor’s Office conducted an extradition review regarding the man.

Based on the results of the review, no circumstances were found that would prevent his extradition.

The foreign national was subsequently handed over to the competent authorities of the French Republic to serve his sentence.
