In some regions of Ukraine, temperatures have approached +37
From June 25 to 28, an abnormal heat wave in Ukraine led to new all-time high temperatures. According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, the situation is most severe in the western and southern regions, where temperatures reached +35 °C and, in some places, approached +37 °C.
Here is how the recorded records were distributed across the country’s regions:
Volyn Oblast (Lutsk): On Sunday, June 28, the region recorded the absolute high for these days—an extreme +36.7 °C.
Lviv Oblast: Temperature anomalies were recorded for four consecutive days, with temperatures steadily rising. On Thursday, thermometers showed +30.2 °C; on Friday, +31.7 °C; on Saturday, +32.4 °C; and on Sunday, the heat peaked at +35.8 °C.
Zakarpattia Oblast: A three-day streak of record-breaking temperatures brought +33.4 °C on Friday, +34.6 °C on Saturday, and a scorching +36.4 °C on Sunday.
Odesa and Rivne Regions: On June 28, previous record highs were also broken here—meteorologists recorded +36.2 °C and +36.0 °C, respectively.
Previous historical records for late June were also broken in a number of other Ukrainian regions:
Chernivtsi — +35.9 °C;
Ternopil — +35.5 °C;
Kirovohrad Oblast — +35.0 °C;
Vinnytsia — +34.6 °C;
Zhytomyr — +33.0 °C;
Khmelnytskyi — +32.8 °C.
Extreme weather conditions have now spread not only across Ukraine but also across most of Europe (including neighboring Poland, where a record-breaking +40.5 °C was recorded recently). According to estimates by the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 1,300 people have died in the past week alone due to complications caused by the abnormal European heatwave.

Meanwhile, for those Kyiv residents who left their thermometers in the sun, the scale simply didn’t have enough markings to measure the temperature.
