Rolling blackouts will be in effect in a number of regions due to the extreme heat

Due to abnormally high temperatures and a sharp increase in electricity consumption in Ukraine, power rationing schedules will be implemented on June 30. These measures will apply to industrial enterprises, businesses, and residential consumers alike.

According to energy officials, the restrictions will be in effect in the evening—from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.—when the load on the power grid is at its highest.

Specifically, power restriction schedules will be applied to industry and businesses during this time, while residential customers will be subject to hourly power outages ranging from 0.5 to 1 stage.

The main reason for these measures is a significant increase in electricity consumption due to the heat and widespread use of air conditioners. The country’s power grid continues to recover from Russian attacks, so the additional load poses risks to its stable operation.

Experts note that every 3-degree increase in air temperature adds about 100 MW of load to Ukraine’s power grid.

Energy officials are urging citizens to be responsible in their electricity consumption and to follow simple recommendations to reduce the load on the grid.

In particular, Ukrainians are asked not to turn on several high-power electrical appliances at the same time, to use energy-intensive appliances during daytime hours, and to set air conditioners to a temperature no lower than 23–25 degrees.

According to experts, when the air conditioner temperature is set below 22 degrees, electricity consumption increases by approximately 8% for every additional degree of cooling.

Energy companies emphasize that the situation in the power grid remains fluid, so citizens are advised to monitor announcements from distribution system operators and the latest power outage schedules in their regions.

Restriction schedules are being implemented to maintain the stable operation of the power grid and prevent emergency power outages across the country.

Despite the hot weather and heavy use of air conditioners, no power outages are forecast for Ukraine during the day. However, power rationing schedules may be in effect in the evening.

Power outage schedules may be implemented in several regions on June 30.

“Mykolaivoblenergo” added that from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., hourly power outages involving one rotation may be implemented.

As a reminder, Ukrenergo has warned of possible prolonged power outages this summer.
