A repeat offender was sentenced in Dnipro for escaping from a prison camp during a power outage
The Novokodatsky District Court of Dnipro found a man with a history of prior convictions guilty of escaping from prison. During the trial, the defendant fully admitted his guilt and explained that a conflict with other inmates had prompted his escape.
This was reported by “Court Reporter” on May 17.
The convict was serving a sentence for theft at the Dnipro Correctional Colony (No. 89). However, on February 6, 2026, at approximately 11 p.m., he took advantage of a power outage at the facility and reduced visibility and, after the “lights out” command, left his sleeping quarters.
Upon hearing the alarm and the guard’s warning shots fired into the air, and realizing he had been discovered, the inmate did not abandon his plan; he scaled the camouflaged fence and fled the colony. He was apprehended the following day.
In court, the defendant fully admitted his guilt and explained that he had done so following a conflict with other inmates.
He was sentenced to four years in prison for escaping from the prison, but taking into account the sentence from his previous conviction, his final prison term will be six years.
