In Drohobych, unknown individuals damaged the city hospital's premises

In the city of Drohobych, Lviv Oblast, on the night of June 29, unknown individuals broke into City Hospital No. 1 and damaged property in several wards.

According to preliminary information, some of the medical facility’s equipment and interior were destroyed or damaged as a result of the incident. The circumstances of the incident are under investigation.

"The week began with an unpleasant incident at Drohobych City Hospital No. 1: unknown individuals broke into the outpatient oncology and gynecology units, as well as the urology department, during the night of June 28–29 and damaged property in the offices,” the statement reads.

As noted, the malicious acts were discovered by the department staff themselves when they arrived at work on the morning of June 29. In particular, according to medical specialists, door frames and locks were damaged in most of the oncology offices.

"Inside the offices themselves, cables connecting work computers and the internet have been cut. In addition, the drawers of the doctors’ desks were ransacked, and property was destroyed, including examination couches and partitions in the gynecology office, among other items. As a result of these actions by the perpetrators, the hospital has suffered material damage,” the medical facility stated.

They added that the damaged property and the doctors’ work computers rendered inoperable constitute an act of direct disrespect toward the work of medical staff, as well as toward patients.

"Law enforcement officers have been called to the scene to conduct the necessary investigative actions, determine the circumstances of the incident, and search for the perpetrators. Despite this unpleasant situation, the department continues to operate as usual, and the medical staff is providing care to critically ill patients," the hospital stated.

The hospital urged community members who have any information about the incident to report it to law enforcement.

Andriy Kotsyuba, the hospital’s CEO, told Zaxid.net that this is an outpatient department with no security guards but equipped with security cameras. The video footage shows that a single man entered the hospital. The video footage has already been handed over to the police, who are working to identify the perpetrator.

As the publication notes, the vandal did not steal anything—neither office equipment nor medication—but only caused damage to property. The hospital is still calculating the amount of property damage. Kotsyuba added that the hospital plans to increase the number of security cameras and is installing them in other departments as well.

The First City Hospital is a regional hub facility, providing emergency inpatient care to residents of the Drohobych community and surrounding towns.

This information is posted on the Facebook page of the Drohobych City Hospital No. 1.

Before his dismissal, the director of the BSP signed a contract worth 83 million.

The story surrounding the BSP is likely to continue, as the issue concerns not only a change in the hospital’s leadership but also the use of tens of millions of hryvnias in budget funds. The results of any potential audits should reveal whether there were grounds for the allegations made by the civic activist. This was reported by civic activist and veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war Oleg Symoroz.

In Kyiv, law enforcement officials uncovered a scheme to embezzle budget funds during the renovation of the facade and roof of one of the buildings at the Bogomolets National Medical University. According to the investigation, the losses to the state exceeded 15 million hryvnias.
