In Drohobych, plaques honoring missing defenders were vandalized
In Drohobych, police identified the person who defaced commemorative plaques honoring Ukrainian servicemen who were captured or went missing in action. Damage to two commemorative plaques on Sheptytsky Street was discovered on the morning of September 10—just two days after their official installation.
In total, on September 8 in Drohobych and Stebnyk, to mark the city’s 935th anniversary, 20 similar plaques were placed on benches with a call to remember the soldiers who are awaited at home. The project was carried out by the city’s department for supporting defenders and their families in collaboration with the relatives of prisoners of war and soldiers missing in action.
The organizers note that both plaques are in need of restoration and will be repaired in the near future, while Mayor Taras Kuchma called the incident an act of vandalism and a sign of disrespect toward Ukrainian defenders and their families.
This was reported by the Lviv Regional Police.
As a reminder, a video appeared on social media showing a perpetrator attempting to set fire to flags installed in honor of Ukraine’s fallen defenders near the Independence Monument in the center of the capital. No one was apprehended at the scene of the vandalism “in the heat of the moment.”
A few days later, law enforcement authorities apprehended the vandal who had attempted to burn the flags.
