In Kharkiv, a mother was sentenced to 5 years for the death of her 4-year-old son

In Kharkiv, a court sentenced a 29-year-old woman to five years in prison for the death of her 4-year-old son due to her negligence.

The tragedy occurred on May 7 in an apartment on the fourth floor of a building on Novo-Bavarsky Avenue. The woman left in the morning to work a side job and left her two young children alone in the locked apartment.

While the mother was away, the boy climbed onto the windowsill, lost his balance, and fell out of the window. The child died in the ambulance from his injuries.

Law enforcement officers also found the boy’s younger sister in the apartment. The girl showed signs of dehydration. She was provided with medical care and later placed with a foster family.

The court found the woman guilty of neglect and willful failure to fulfill her parental duties. The defendant fully admitted her guilt.

As it turned out, the family had previously been on the social services’ radar. In 2023, the mother had already been held accountable for failing to properly fulfill her parental duties.
