The rector of Karazin University was re-elected in Kharkiv

Tetyana Kaganovska will remain rector of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University for another five years. She won the rector’s election held at the university.

 

On September 24, the V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University held its rector election. A total of 1,861 voters were eligible to vote in the election. 1,540 people received ballots and cast their votes. Thus, voter turnout was 82.8%.

1,015 voters (54.54%) voted for Tetiana Kaganovska. 439 (23.59%) voted for Ruslan Vovk.

Another 64 voters did not support any candidate (3.44%).

Tetyana Kaganovska commented on the election results on her Facebook page. “Thank you for entrusting me to continue leading Karazin University forward. I understand what a responsibility this is, and I know I cannot handle it alone. We have five more years of working together ahead of us. I want to spend them with you,” Kaganovska wrote.

Kaganovska has led the university since 2021. She has worked at Karazin University for over 20 years, more than 15 of which she spent as dean of the law school. Kaganovska is the daughter of Yevhen Kushnaryov, the former mayor of Kharkiv, head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, and head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine under Viktor Yanukovych.

In 2006, she was elected to the Kharkiv City Council as a representative of the Party of Regions, and a year later she ran for a seat in the Verkhovna Rada. Her candidacy has repeatedly sparked public debate, particularly regarding possible academic plagiarism in her doctoral dissertation. The court proceedings in this case are ongoing.
