In Khmelnytskyi, a soldier was sentenced to prison for threatening police officers with a knife
The Khmelnytskyi City and District Court has sentenced a serviceman who, while intoxicated, threatened police officers with a knife. The man was sentenced to 5 years and 6 months in prison.
According to the case file, in March 2026, the emergency hotline “102” received a report about a man who refused to leave a ward at the Khmelnytsky Regional Cancer Center after being discharged from the hospital.
Two police officers arrived at the scene. While speaking with the officers, the man took a folding knife from a nightstand, opened it, and began threatening the police with violence.
According to the court, the man was in close proximity to the officers and pointed the knife in their direction. The officers then disarmed him and detained the suspect using handcuffs.
The defendant fully admitted his guilt and expressed remorse for his actions. His guilt was also confirmed by evidence examined during the trial.
The man was found guilty under Part 1 of Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—threatening a law enforcement officer with violence in connection with the performance of his official duties.
In determining the sentence, the court considered both mitigating and aggravating circumstances.
Mitigating factors included sincere remorse and a full admission of guilt.
At the same time, the commission of the crime while intoxicated and the fact that it was a repeat offense were considered aggravating factors.
It was also established that the servicemember is a resident of Zaporizhzhia, has an average reputation in his community, but received positive evaluations during his service.
In addition, the man had an outstanding criminal record for theft under Part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and was on probation.
For the new crime, the court sentenced the defendant to one year of imprisonment. However, in accordance with the law, the unserved portion of the sentence from the previous conviction was partially added to this term.
As a result, the court determined the final sentence to be 5 years and 6 months of imprisonment.
The verdict has not yet taken legal effect and may be appealed.
This was reported by the court.
Earlier, in the Vinnytsia region, a case was referred to court involving a 26-year-old Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemember accused of desertion, sexual assault of a minor, and intentional homicide to conceal another crime.
In the Poltava region, law enforcement officers located and detained a serviceman who had left his unit without permission and, according to the Military Law Enforcement Service, had publicly threatened violence and arson. He has been taken to his unit for questioning, and the case materials are being forwarded to investigative authorities.
