A section of the fortress wall at Khotyn Castle has collapsed again
Four battlements of the stone wall at the top of the Khotyn Fortress fell off after losing their support following the first collapse of the wall on April 17. Elizaveta Buynovska, director of the reserve, reported that due to this incident, experts will have to urgently make changes to the design and cost estimate documentation.
Access by tourists to the affected area has been restricted, and emergency repair work requires official approvals due to the site’s status as a national landmark.
Restoration of the site is complicated by its location on a steep canyon slope. Currently, experts are conducting 3D scans and ground-penetrating radar surveys of the area and are developing solutions to restore the drainage system. The Ministry of Culture has allocated approximately 3 million hryvnias for the preparation of project documentation, and the total cost of the restoration will be determined after the expert assessments are completed.

In 2023, a large-scale renovation costing 12 million hryvnias was carried out at the Khotyn Fortress. The State Inspectorate of Architecture and Urban Planning (DIAM) issued a certificate of acceptance into operation for the completed construction project at the Khotyn Fortress.
In the capital, the 12th-century Church of the Savior on Berestov, part of the architectural ensemble of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, was reopened following restoration.
